Libby
Libby was rescued along a lonely stretch of Little Valley Road; someone had apparently tied her up out in the woods and left her, but she managed to chew through the rope and get free. She hopped into my car when I slowed down at the sight of her. It was several months later that she came to live with us permanently, and she was a perfect fit for us right from the start. She accompanied us backpacking, canoeing, camping, and working outdoors on our property. She wasn't a swimmer, but Libby LOVED a nice wallow in a mud puddle! She considered her 35 pounds of intimidation to be a match for any dog that dared to invade her territory; same thing for squirrels or cats. We were so happy to share 14 years of her life, and will miss her like crazy.

Keili
Keili was a rescue dog. When Mitch first laid eyes on her she was being walked by a young woman who said that this dog had kennel cough and until she recovered, was being taken care of at her home instead of in the shelter. So, Mitch went to the shelter and asked that he be first on the list to adopt. Eventually, he was able to take Keili home and had her to love for 9 years. Her favorite thing to do was to come to Fall River Mills to visit the lake and to roam the fields near Paulette's house. Even when she was confined to the large yard in Fall River Mills she enjoyed interacting with her dog cousins especially the littlest one, Sara Gooch. During her visits to Fall River Valley, Keili's energy was boundless. Even when it came time that Mitch knew she should not suffer any more, there was still one final morning that she ran almost to the lake, having a wonderful last fling. RIP, Keili.

Jake
Loved by Judy and Giles Kellogg, and Chiquita. Jake was a VERY BIG boy, with an emormous heart. A friend initially saw him in the pens at the Burney sheriffs' substation. Jake seemed very sweet and calm, and she told Judy about him. Judy and Giles had recently lost 2 very old (and very big) dogs. Judy went to see him right away and called Giles to come and meet this sweet, big guy. They immediately adopted him and within a few months, another dog showed up at the substation, similar color and she seemed just as sweet. They adopted Chiquita immediately and the Chiquita and Jake became "soul mates." They spent every waking hour together on the property on Sand Pit Rd. Jake started failing Spring 2012, but continued to show happiness in his everyday life with Judy and Giles. In July, it appeared he needed to be put to rest. Chiquita was despondent for weeks, looking for him and eventually noticed the mound of dirt where he was buried. RIP, Jake.

Pepper Jack
Pepper Jack was Maureen's baby and best friend and she has missed him so much. He was found on Hwy 299 when he was about 6 months old. Maureen's family had him until his death in November 2012 from cancer; saying goodbye to a wonderful boy was hard for everyone.

Sugar Plum
Sugar Plum was an overweight senior dog when her original owner passed away. Even though she was bouncy and friendly, it seemed like no one wanted to adopt her. Then Jennifer came along, and they hit it off. They walked countless miles and spent so many hours together; Sugar Plum knew she had truly received a second chance at love and happiness. Sadly, Sugar Plum's kidneys failed after just 14 months in her new home--but those were happy times for her. All dogs deserve to be loved as much as Sugar Plum was at the end of her life.
